Bootvis
Bootvis is a tool to optimize the XP boot time and to get an idea of which programs you want to remove with MSCONFIG.
The goal is to cold boot in 30 seconds, return from hibernation in 20 seconds, and return from standby in 10 seconds.
The optimizing process focuses on the prefetching subsystem and the layout of boot files on the disk.
To use BOOTVIS:
- enable task scheduler
- close all programs
- start with a full analysis of a fresh boot
- In BOOTVIS
- go to the Tools menu
- select next boot
- set the Trace Repetition Settings
- 2 repetitions
- Start at 1
- Reboot automatically
- Reboot the system The system will fully reboot twice
- open BOOTVIS and the second trace file it will have _2 in it's name
- analyze the graphs
- make any changes that you think are necessary
- go to the Trace menu
- select the Optimize System item the system to reboot and will then make some changes to the file structure
- run a Trace analysis change the starting number to 3the system will reboot twice
- compare the charts from the second trace to the charts for the fourth trace
that will be the time improvement of the system's boot up - reboot
